Here is some of my most recent work. - C
Subway.
People
Many people in lines
waiting for the loop
hole
Swimming
for places to sit
Comfort is the idol
stemming
from a heart searching
Brimming
with an insatiable desire
to be satisfied.
Body.
My body
relentlessly vulnerable
to the desires of men
who believe that I was made for them
not now, not then.
You cannot hover over me
like a master to a slave
I refuse to create space
for what is depraved.
But still,
He puts his hands on what is mine
I take what is mine
to draw a line
But he already has the upper-hand
I stand
clenching what is mine
What is mine means nothing
to the desires of men
not now, not then.
Beijing.
Chaos ensues
As chased by
colors of red hues
this city is bounded
by history and newness
Beijing
where I find foreign
synonymous with home
forging endlessly
so many unknowns
calling me to stay
in its confinements
I find myself torn
between the west
and the east
I am the least
ready to say goodbye
to the city
where foreign
and home coexist synonymously.
Singleness.
Singleness
Nesting itself in sets
of words that give meaning
and marginalizes
Leaning
against the back of church walls
wondering if God says the church
does he really mean us all?
Because when you step inside
a building that is meant
to be building
But instead it is yielding
To society's standards of
living
How can you grow?
How can you belong
to a group that doesn't know
How to address you
How can you address people who
don't see a whole person
just a person not pursued?
How can they move toward someone
and not put them into a box
thinking they are reaching
but instead they are preaching
The covenant is real, true, it's holy
But the body isn't the body
if it's not addressed fully
Every person accounted
under the headship of the One who counts
Everyone.
